Happiness is letting go of what you want (even if you want it so super badly)

I’m so excited to share something special with you to help you choose happiness in your life.

Today my friend and bestselling publisher Linda Joy released the book, Inspiration for a Woman’s Soul: Choosing Happiness, featuring stories of 27 amazing women (I know many of these inspiring ladies) who share their intimate stories of transformation. One of the things I love most about Choosing Happiness is that there are reflection questions after each story to help you integrate all the vital lessons into YOUR life. So go ahead and grab your copy today.

For me, one of the most important things about choosing happiness is letting go. When you let go of what may be or what was, you free yourself to truly enjoy THIS moment so you can fully live in the NOW.

Before you let go, you must FEEL

Several years ago when my husband and I were struggling with infertility, I spent much of my time buried under “what if” thoughts. I was SO attached to the outcome of becoming pregnant, that I could barely entertain any other idea of the future. In fact, I was so consumed with the future that I wasn’t paying any attention to the present.

But that kind of thinking isn’t beneficial. It’s actually fear-driven. Underneath my I-really-want-to-get-pregnant thoughts was a fear that if I couldn’t have a child then I wouldn’t be a “complete” woman.

What I learned was that I had to let go of what I wanted, even though I wanted it so super badly.

As Mandy Hale says, “Sometimes you just need to breathe, trust, let go, and see what happens.”

So I mourned my ability to get pregnant. I spent a long weekend feeling the full weight of not being able to have a child. I cried and cried. I grieved. I felt complete sorrow.

After years of wishing, hoping, and actually trying to control becoming pregnant, I knew I had to let go of what I so desperately was trying to achieve.

And then I moved on.

Releasing my desire to be pregnant meant choosing to no longer dwell or agonize on that outcome. I made peace with whatever was to come while vowing NOT to focus on the future.

As I’ve written in my eBook about the 7 steps I took to move past my emotional pain of infertility and miscarriage, there is absolutely no way to guarantee the future, no matter how much you try to convince yourself otherwise.

I also chose to remain happy, even though I couldn’t have what I wanted. I accepted whatever future was to come because I realized that, no matter what happened, I would still be happy and satisfied with my life.

How to let go and choose happiness

Whenever you find yourself ruminating on a particular outcome, imagine a bright red stop sign that prevents you from dwelling on those tho

Instead, take a deep breath and say the affirmation –

“I let go and surrender the outcome.” Or you can say – “If this situation [be as specific as you want about your situation] is good for me and everyone around me, please allow it to happen.”

And then trust that whatever is best for you WILL indeed happen.

{Friendly note to my readers – I’m not receiving any compensation or considerations for promoting the Choosing Happiness book. I just totally respect all the authors and think you might really benefit from reading about their stories.}
